There is great power in Faisal Hoque‘s written words, and his book Everything Connects is a tool that I am going to start using on a regular basis. In fact, I found this book to be so helpful, I am going to incorporate several themes into one of my concurrent sessions at the National Tutoring Association conference this April.

When I cracked open this book for the first time, I was half-expecting to find a boring run of the mill business book. My assumptions quickly dissipated, and I was hooked after reading the prologue and couldn’t put the book down. Hoque and I think similarly about many things, but the parallels between our business/leadership philosophy are uncanny. We are both intentional about building deep relationships with people, and we invest large quantities of time and energy getting to know the people around us. We also strive to break down rigid hierarchy structures for the sake of innovation.

Although Everything Connects is a business book, the basic premise of is rooted in a non-western philosophical tradition. Throughout the book, Hoque highlights the necessity of identity development, and the importance of being mindful of the decisions we make. Mindfulness is embedded into every chapter of this book and is an act that will provide a catalyst for growth in many areas of life, especially when innovation is involved. Pick up Everything Connects if you need a resource to help you start transforming your work environment. You won’t be disappointed.
